Case Study 11 – Female Hair Loss Patient Surprised by Results

A 27 year old female presented with significant thinning throughout the top and rear of her scalp. The patient thought the loss had been occurring for approximately 3-4 years. Over the past 12 months the hair loss had sped up, which prompted the patient to consider treatment more so, than during the previous 3 years. The patient’s family was supportive of her seeking treatment, which did help when making the decision to book the initial Ashley and Martin appointment.

After discussing family history, both the patient’s mother and the patient’s grandmother had thin hair. Most of her grandmother’s hair was lost at a young age. The patient’s main concern was to halt the loss from continuing, and to regrow as much lost as possible. The patient understood that due to the advanced hair loss, treatment may not result in all of the hair coming back prior to when the loss originally occurred. We were still confident that a significant improvement would occur.

Due to the amount of loss, it was recommended for the patient to use a combination of prescription medication in the form a topical treatment, the FDA approved Laser Cap, and the Hair Nutrient Complex supplement. The prescribed topical treatment was to be applied 2mls daily. The Laser Cap was to be used at home either every day for 15 minutes, or every second day for 30 minutes. The Hair Nutrient Complex was to be taken once daily with food.

Due to the patient’s working schedule, she was unable to attend a check-up at the 4 month period. At her earliest convenience, a 6 month appointment was scheduled. When speaking to the patient prior to booking the appointment, the patient expressed concerns over the treatment not having an effect. It was recommended the patient come into the clinic so we could take photographs to compare her before and afters.

Over a 6 month time frame, the patient’s hair significantly improved and the patient was pleasantly surprised. As the majority of the loss was on the crown, it made it very difficult to see the improvements in a mirror. The patient will continue treatment as more results are to still be expected.
