Case Study 09 – Female Hair Loss Addressed with Ashley and Martin Lasercap
Introduction
A 50 year old woman presented with hair loss to her forehead and crown. Her hair loss had slowly been worsening for the last 10 years.
She reported no excessive hair loss (shedding), but was concerned that her scalp hair was becoming thinner and thinner, especially over the last several years.
Patient background
This client reported good health with no ongoing health concerns.
She was taking no current medications, either long or short term.
Family History
She reported a family history of hair loss in her mother.
Examination
On examination hair density was markedly reduced at the forehead and crown.
Occipital and parietal sections of the scalp showed no signs of hair loss.
Diagnosis
Female Pattern Baldness.
Other Medical Issues
On review by doctor, no other complicating factors identified.
Treatment Options and Rational
1. Prescription Based Medicinal Program
2. Lasercap
3. Surgery
Doctor recommended Ashley and Martin Lasercap as the key treatment option.
Topical Realgrowth Solution as second choice.
Prescription anti dihydrotestosterone medication was not recommended as first or second choice, as Female Pattern Baldness often does not respond to this type of treatment.
Surgery was not indicated as potential results of Lasercap were strong.
Prescription
1. Low level laser light therapy, 30 minutes every second day.
2. Specific nutrients to ensure appropriate hair growth when using laser cap.
Discussion
If the Lasercap results were not positive we had the option to use the Prescription Based Medicinal Program as our second choice.
Outcome
She found the treatment program easy and straight forward to use.
This client gained good results over the first 8 months of treatment (In most cases hair growth results are moderate over the first 4 months, with most growth occurring between 4 and 8 months of treatment).
Conclusion
Results confirm the diagnosis of Female pattern Baldness.
Results confirm selection of Lasercap as best treatment option.
She was exceptionally happy with the results. She reported her confidence improved due to her hair growth.
This client should expect continued hair growth over the next 1-2 years, with hair stabilisation from this point.
